TWO VALUED TINTAGEL A.F.C PLAYER'S FROM THE 1930s

Dudley Kernick, on the left , is reunited after 65 years with his playing team member, Harold Donnithorne. They met each other at Harold's home in Port Isaac & the memories flooded back to both of them. Dudley, a Boscastle boy, played first for Tintagel 1st team at the age of fourteen. He left Tintagel & signed professional forms for Torquay United.
He went on to play for Birmingham City & Northampton, before managing Nuneaton Boro. Finally he became the first football sponsorship manager for Stoke City. Dudley now lives in Florida & could not manage the 100th celebration for the club. He has met Daphne Knight, wife of the late Peter, who was in the same team as Dudley & Harold.
Harold played for Tintagel into the 1950s & won many honours with the club. He was known in Port Isaac as the local plumber, a tradition which his son Eric, carries on.

Personally the only really low point this season has been the delays in applying for funding for our new facilities.
This must happen soon for the club to expand in the future.

I would finally like to say a big thank you to the committee, players and other members of the community, who have continued to support Tintagel A.F.C, and I hope that we can look forward to improved facilities and general club success very soon.
If you would like a say on how the club is to be run please come to the AGM on Thursday 26th May
at The Cornishman, Fore Street, Tintagel.

                                                                                                                 Thanks Heidi

TINTAGEL AFC HOLD PLYMOUTH ARGYLE YOUTH TRAINING DAYS.

The staff of Plymouth Argyle Football in the community praised Jane Burnard, Tintagel Youth
Football Club secretary, after organising, at short notice, a two-day training course for the
young footballers in the area. The event was held on 4th and 5th August 2004.
The following is an extract from 'The Pilgrim' the match day programme of Plymouth Argyle from
the match on Saturday 21st August 2004. "Our second new venue was to Tintagel. The two-day
course was hastily arranged a week or so ago and the fact that nearly 50 children attended was
due to the hard work and organisation of club secretary Jane Burnard. We were again blessed
with superb weather. Our normal format for courses ensured, i.e. skill and technique work in the
morning, followed by small-sided games on a world cup theme in the afternoon - with the
emphasis always being on the fun and more fun." Written by Alec Brenton, Head Coach,
football in the community.
Club officials of Tintagel AFC; wish to express their gratitude to Jane Burnard for all
her hard work.

On Sunday 7th August Tintagel AFC organised a Kick for CLIC children’s penalty shoot out competition, which Robert Doman and Ryan Moth won. The over 14’s took part in a 6-a-side competition which was won by Boscastle AFC. The event raised £96 for CLIC, £32 for the redevelopment fund for Tintagel Memorial Playing fields and £90 for Tintagel AFC. The club wishes to thank all the teams for taking part and the referees. The finale to the day was the presentation of The Cornwall County FA Charter Standard Club County award for 2005 to Tintagel AFC from Mr B Conyon, president of CCFA. This is awarded each year in recognition of outstanding contribution to football within the county.

DONKEY DERBY 2005

This year the Tintagel football and cricket club held a donkey derby on Wednesday 10th August. The main event consisted of 10 shay races, with local people paying for the privilege to be a jockey for the night. All had a fantastic time, even if a few became a little bruised in the process. (For those of you who don’t know what a shay is, it’s a small cart pulled along behind the back of a donkey.)
Meanwhile if you lost interest in the donkey racing, you could have had a go on the tombola, hook a duck, treasure hunt, safe cracker or filled your stomach with delights from the bar-be-que, expertly run by Andrew and Justine Cook and Pam Lyons.
While the adults were busy eating and betting the children could have a go on the penalty shoot out competition.
The donkeys were supplied by Ruben Chapman and our thanks go to them for making it a special event. Thanks also go to St Johns ambulance, Camelford branch, for making sure all jockeys got home safely and also to all the race and donkey sponsors, Alan Sergeant for his amazing commentary on the evening’s events, and to all helpers and supporters of this event, which raised £680 to be shared between Tintagel Cricket and Football Club.
Thank you all for being as generous as ever; see you at next year’s Donkey Derby
